Hugh Ricketts 1770

The first European settlements in Maryland were made in 1634 when English settlers created a permanent colony.

Hugh Ricketts was born about 1770 in Maryland. His parents were Anthony and Mary Ricketts. His father mentioned him in his 1793 will.

He married Mary Carr on April 21, 1793 in Baltimore.

In 1800, Hugh Ricketts was in Baltimore City, Maryland. The household consisted of

a man between 26 and 44
a woman between 16 and 25
a boy under 10

In 1815 the Baltimore City Commisioners established

the north east intersection of Eutaw and Saratoga Streets & Hugh Rickets' lot on Saratoga Street. . . and measuring on the North side of Saratoga Street west 50 feet 7 Inches from Hugh Ricketts' Lot Then Proceeded to the Establishment of Hugh Ricketts' Lot being 20 feet front to Commence from the above Establishment 50 feet therefrom and running Northward that width agreeably to his Title Papers.

In 1820 the household was still in Baltimore. It consisted of

a man and a woman over 45
a man between 16 and 18
3 girls between 10 & 15
2 girls under 10

Hugh died in 1842 in Baltimore.

Ricketts is also spelled Rickeots, Rickeotts, Rickett, Rickets, Ricket, Rickel, Rickle, Rickels, and Rickles.
